OR2026 online 8-11 June 2026

Sessions & schedule

Expect 1 day of pre-conference workshops and roundtable discussions on 8 June, followed by keynotes and presentations over 3 days, 9-11 June. Sessions will be clustered around times with the most timezone overlap (Americas morning and EU/Africa/Middle East afternoon).

New this year! Instead of live 24×7 lightning talk sessions, brief lightning talk videos will be posted within the conference platform for on-demand viewing.

All sessions will be recorded and made available to registered attendees within the conference platform shortly after each session ends. Recordings will be openly available in the Open Repositories Zenodo repository after the conference.

Registration & fees

We plan to charge a registration fee of $50 to attendees from “high income” countries as defined by the World Bank in order to support event platform costs. Registration for attendees from all other countries will be free.

Attendees from high income countries without funds available from their institution may also be eligible for no cost registration. We will provide more information about how to request no cost registration once registration opens.

Registration will open in early April 2026.

More info & contacts

More details will be posted here on the OR2026 website as they become available. Contact or2026-host-committee@googlegroups.com with any questions about OR2026.

OR2027 in Salvador, Brazil 6-10 June 2027

Open Repositories will return in person in 2027, and the OR Steering Committee is thrilled to announce that the conference will take place in Salvador, Brazil 6-10 of June 2027! With an active and growing repository community in South America, we are excited to finally bring the conference to this region.

OR2027 will be jointly hosted by Universidade Federal da Bahia (UFBA), Instituto Brasileiro de Informação em Ciência e Tecnologia (IBICT), Universidade Federal do Goiás (UFG), Universidade Federal do Paraná (UFPR) and Rede Brasileira de Repositórios Digitais (RBRD).

The conference will be held at the Wish Hotel in Bahia, located near Salvador’s Historic Center, a vibrant center of history and culture which is designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Nearby, there are a wide variety of opportunities to explore the city, including its diverse gastronomy and musical traditions, which showcase its Afro-Brazilian roots.

Stay tuned for more information about OR2027 in the coming months!

Open Repositories 2026 to be held online 8-11 June

The next Open Repositories conference location is usually kept “secret” until the final moments of the current year’s conference, but OA enthusiasts are terrible at keeping secrets, so we’re letting the cat out of the bag a little early this year. The Open Repositories Steering Committee (ORSC) is excited to announce that OR2026 will be held online!

The OR community has experienced considerable growth over the past 20 years, and with that has come increased demand to make the conference accessible to those who can’t travel to the conference each year. Considering these global access needs, along with climate change concerns, geopolitical uncertainty and ever-tightening travel budgets, the time is right for OR to try an online approach. Planning is already underway, and we will announce more details in the coming months!

We consider this an experiment, and if it’s well-received, we may consider holding the conference online every 3-4 years. If not, we’ll continue on with our traditional in-person approach.

All that said, we know that the in-person conference is a much-loved event in the repositories community, so we’re also pleased to announce that the ORSC is now seeking Expressions of Interest (EOIs) from organizations interested in hosting the 2027 Open Repositories (OR2027) Annual Conference.

In-person OR conference locations rotate between Europe, North America, and other regions of the world. For OR2027, we are particularly interested in hosting the conference in a location outside of Europe and North America. While preference will be given to EOIs from potential hosts in these other regions, we welcome and will consider all EOIs.

Please see the full Call for expressions of interest to host Open Repositories 2027 for more information and submission instructions.
